RCSSU is the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Students’ Union. It provides information to students, represents their interests within policymaking forums and offers a robust events/performance programme.

2020/21 RCSSU President John Craig was elected on a platform of bringing consistency to the union’s image, owing to successive administrations doing their own thing. Any new brand had to be bold, fresh and distinct from the Conservatoire’s own brand. A website was also required to centralise information for students, and sell branded merchandise — part of diversifying the union’s income streams following the cancellation of all live performance events in 2020.

Our brand uses a distinctly modern typeface, with each letter given equal weight to reflect the equally-important five departments that make up RCS. We created a myriad of colourful logo variants, cognisant that RCS’s huge creative output means the logo will need to be used in all manner of situations. Contrasting colours feature heavily on the new website, where people can read about the union’s pandemic response, and order high-quality hoodies, tote bags and water bottles.
