An Extraordinary Week in Oslo

Christopher Graham
Chief Executive Officer

When I started my career (nearly 20 years ago!), a mentor said to me at the time: “Remember the most important rule –  one big thing at a time.” As my career in marketing has progressed, I’ve always tried to stick to that.

But every now and then, rules are meant to be broken. The NECCUS Scotland-Norway Decarbonisation Trade Mission, held last week, and the launch of the new Carbon Capture Scotland branding, were just too powerful not to tie together. So you’ll understand I am still flying high from a successful brand relaunch and a hugely successful (…and first of its kind) trade mission.

This is a story of two parts. Enjoy.

NECCUS Scotland-Norway Decarbonisation Trade Mission 2023
Unfolding 30th-31st August, this NECCUS-led trade mission brought together Scottish and Norwegian organisations involved in decarbonisation initiatives such as carbon capture & storage, inviting delegates to share their expertise, explore market synergies, and accelerate the transition to Net Zero.

TMD had the honour of organising this event – liaising with speakers and venues, creating the event's brand and marketing materials, and promoting the event via national and international media. To our knowledge, it’s the first ever Scottish decarbonisation trade mission.

The Mission’s agenda, developed in partnership with Norwegian Energy Partners, featured talks by distinguished experts and business leaders, highlighting the pivotal role of innovative decarbonisation technologies in the energy transition.

Following formal presentations, delegates were treated to an exclusive networking drinks reception hosted by UK Ambassador to Norway, Jan Thompson CMG OBE. The British Embassy in Oslo supported this event, alongside other pivotal partners including the Department for International Trade, the Norwegian-British Chamber of Commerce and Scottish Development International.

Mark Hughes, Chief Operating Officer at NECCUS, commented:

"It's an honour to see this event come to life, thanks in no small part to the herculean efforts of the team at TMD. Our mission is to decarbonise Scottish industry, and this trade mission is a testament to that commitment. "

A new brand for Carbon Capture Scotland

One of the trade mission's key highlights was a presentation by Ed Nimmons, Director of Carbon Capture Scotland. Before an esteemed audience representing the very best of Norway and Scotland’s CO2 transport and storage industries, Ed unveiled the firm’s brand-new visual identity.

This rebrand encapsulates Carbon Capture Scotland’s unwavering commitment to sustainability, dedication to enriching communities, and leadership in carbon capture technology. As the firm delves into an era of rapid growth, this fresh identity is poised to set them apart on the international stage.

My team and I are proud to have played a pivotal role in this transformation, from ideation to execution. Our team undertook the complete redesign of the Carbon Capture Scotland brand, ensuring that it accurately represents their values and vision. We also built the firm’s new website – carboncapture.scot – which will serve as the bedrock of their ongoing marketing and communications strategies, which they have also entrusted to us.

Richard Nimmons, Co-founder & Director of Carbon Capture Scotland said:

“As our profile increases and our business expands, we knew we had to have the best in the net zero space to help us with our rebrand, ongoing communications and overall marketing strategy.

Working with the team at The Marketing Department has been a joy – they really took a lot of time to understand us, our motivations, and what it is we’re aiming to do. They’ve created a beautiful visual presence for the business that perfectly communicates our purpose. And this is just the start; we can’t wait to see what this partnership will bring.”

Collaborating for a sustainable future
In the spirit of collaboration, I’d like to highlight all the hard work that went into achieving the seamless execution of these two concurrent successes – from the extraordinary TMD team to our friends and colleagues at NECCUS and Carbon Capture Scotland. Together, we’re driving meaningful change towards a more sustainable future.

Thank you for being a part of our journey, and we look forward to sharing more exciting successes with you very soon.
